Central High Students Earn Lofty ACT Scores

 Today the Louisiana Department of Education released school and district ACT reports. Continuing a notable trend of high achievement, Central Community School System ranked third in average ACT composite score.

 All students in grade 11 take the ACT, which assesses college readiness in the four core academic areas and is used to determine TOPS scholarship awards and entrance into college.

 In 2012, 147 Central High students scored 18 or higher on the ACT test, and 101 earned at least 21 points. In 2017, those numbers increased to 259 and 186 students respectively, both records for the historic institution. That level of growth is matched by only four other high schools in the state, including magnet programs and selective-enrollment schools.

 Central High Principal David Prescott remarked, “These record scores reflect the character and discipline of our wonderful students. It also reflects the outstanding abilities of our amazing faculty and staff. Central High School is a wonderful place with high expectations, and I am honored to be a part of this truly amazing place.”

 The Department of Education also released subgroup summaries as well for specific populations of students. Central students in the African American and the Economically Disadvantaged subgroups led the state in average ACT composite scores.

 This release comes just two weeks after the Department of Education reported Advanced Placement® test results, where the system again ranked third and Central High once more demonstrated outstanding growth.
