The Central Community School System Child Nutrition Program is funded approximately 50% with Federal funds for a projected total of approximately $700,000 per year. For this reason, the United States Department of Agriculture requires by law the use of Child Nutrition Funds, to the maximum extent practicable, to buy domestic commodities or products for meals served under their program. A “domestic commodity or product” is defined as one that is either produced in the U.S. or is processed in the U.S. substantially using agriculture commodities that are produced in the U.S. The term “substantially” means over 51% of the final processed product consist of agricultural commodities that were grown domestically.
