Central Community School System Maintains Top 3 Ranking
Every school deemed A quality by Department of Education
Tuesday, November 7, 2017
The Louisiana Department of Education released the 2017 District and School Performance Scores Tuesday, and Central students are once again at the top. For the sixth consecutive year, the Central Community School System earned an A rating, the highest awarded by the Department of Education. The Central Community School System earned 110.5 points, easily surpassing the state’s 100 point benchmark for districts and schools to earn an A.
For the first time, every school in the district earned an A letter grade. The Department of Education began releasing school letter grades in 2011. Additionally, every school earned Progress Points, which are awarded for increasing the achievement of students performing at the lowest levels.
Central High School earned a 110.1, scoring high marks on each of the four measures used to calculate their score. The highest scores came from a sturdy graduation rate and strength of diploma. The other two measures, End-of-Course exams and ACT performance, grew 3.4 and 9.7 points respectively from 2016.
Central Middle School received a 111.6 mark from the state department. Some schools impacted by the August 2016 flood were allowed to adopt their 2016 score if it was higher than the 2017 score. Due to the effects of temporarily housing Tanglewood students on their campus, Central Middle qualified for the score adoption. Central Middle’s true 2017 score was 101.5, which still would have merited the A letter grade distinction.
Central Intermediate School earned a 100.1 score, a 3.2 point increase from 2016. Central Intermediate also qualified for the 2016 score adoption, but the 2017 score was used since it was higher. Tanglewood Elementary School and Bellingrath Elementary School do not participate in testing since the state-mandated assessments begin in third grade; therefore, those schools are assigned the same 100.1 score earned by Central Intermediate.
The Central Community School System would like to thank its students for their diligence in the classroom, the citizens of this great district for their continued support, and the school faculty for their tremendous dedication. These scores represent an achievement of tremendous significance, and it is through the work of everyone involved that our school system earned a mark worthy of our community’s pride.
